Yesterday's Weather
Collective Radio Project
Brief
This micro project will activate SpatialRadio.live (CSM Spatial Practices’ online radio platform), introducing a new cohort of collaborators to online broadcasting, sound and audio production, voice and tone, desk and action research, interviewing, the design and curation of listening space, and visual documentation of audio production. We will spend three days collectively creating and producing a radio show. The show will focus on the topic of the weather to explore scale, climate, and complexity.
The project is led by Hernan Woodgate (http://radioee.net), Stephanie Sherman, Diana Ibanez Lopez and MANE alumni.
Each group will work with a specific perspective related to the weather (For my group, Transportation), and develop desk and action research to compose their segment. Then the groups will recompose based on interest to produce and promote the live broadcast.
Wings Over Water: Transportation
Central Saint Martins is situated alongside Regent’s Canal, offering a compelling entry point into the theme of transportation. The canal, as a form of transport infrastructure, is highly susceptible to climatic conditions and serves as a strong symbol of the evolution of transportation in London. We identified a particularly significant historical moment—the winter of 1947, the snowiest on record—when the canal froze over, severely disrupting transport. Along the canal, a number of Canada geese reside; as animals highly sensitive to temperature and climate, and known for their migratory behaviour, they became a fitting narrative lens. We therefore chose to explore the relationship between climate change and transportation in London through the perspective of several generations of Canada geese.
