Multi-dimentional Library

A haven of tranquillity amidst the fast pace of modern life

Introduction

This project explores the design of libraries within the context of contemporary urban environments. I was tasked with designing a library situated at a bustling intersection marked by three major roads and two railway lines. The core concept emerged from the contrast between the fast pace of urban life and the slow, contemplative rhythm of reading. This contrast served as a lens through which to reflect on modern-day acceleration.

By seeking a balance between speed and stillness, I translated the constant movement of trains into a calming spatial pattern. This not only offers a tranquil experience within the library itself but also creates a surreal, time-warping moment for those passing through the area by train. Thresholds at entrances and exits were carefully designed as 'deceleration zones'—transitional spaces that gently slow people down, offering a moment of pause. Ultimately, the project aims to provide a place where people can breathe, slow down, and momentarily detach from the city's relentless tempo.
