Overload

Spatial Experience Animation

Introduction

Overload is a spatially led animated short film that transforms online storage into a surreal memory space shaped by human emotion and machine management. Using spatial storytelling as its main narrative method, the film follows a digital hoarder’s perspective as she enters her own cloud storage, allowing the audience to experience this memory space as an unfolding journey. It presents cloud storage as a place where memories, emotional bonds and platform logic are held together, revealing how fear of loss and the desire to preserve everything can gradually turn into anxiety, disorder and a loss of control.

The project builds this world through a spatial translation methodology. It imagines cloud storage as a hybrid realm where internal human memory and external digital storage coexist. Its Biomorphic Information Aesthetic transforms data structures into organic forms, machine governance into spatial control, and emotional connection into visible routes, rituals and networks.

The character and environment design extend this method across the film. The protagonist becomes a projection of memory anxiety, while each environment reflects a different state of memory, from surface order to disorder, decay and reconnection. The work reflects a central tension of the digital age, in which the more we try to preserve, the easier it is to bury what truly matters. It suggests that memory lies not in storage itself, but in how we choose, connect and relate to what we keep.
